BASIC YOGA: An introduction to the Yoga practice. If you are new to Yoga and would like to ease in slowly, this is the class for you. Also good for those who would like to work at a gentle pace.
BEGINNER' S ASHTANGA YOGA: This is a vigorous, dynamic form of yoga that would benefit those seeking strength, flexibility and an energy boost. This system of breath and connected movement introduces a wide range of postures all linked together in a continuous flow. The practice produces some intense heat and a detoxifying sweat. It is best suited to those who have already practiced some yoga before or beginners who are already fit. It is not suitable for expectant mothers.
CHILDREN'S YOGA ( 5-12yrs) In these classes, children will explore traditional yoga poses, breathing techniques and deep relaxation, in a fun and non-competitive way. Yoga helps children develop strength, posture, focus and confidence, and encourages them to find time to be still. Stories and games will help emphasise the benefits of learning yoga skills to improve health and wellbeing. Yoga has been promoted in government initiative programmes for children as a way to help with stress and to tackle obesity problems.
CLASSICAL HATHA YOGA: A blend of traditional yoga postures, breathing techniques and meditative practices. A mix of the vigorous and the gentle, the ancient and the new. Suitable for all abilities.
DYNAMIC YOGA: Dynamic Yoga is a vigorous flowing style, deeply rooted in the spiritual traditions of yoga. Classes include pranayama (controlled breathing techniques), vinyasa-style asana practice where movement is linked to breath and meditation. Inspiring music forms the background to the class which is interspersed with yoga philosophy.
FLOW YOGA: A fluid form of yoga which sequences yoga postures together so that they flow from one to another.
GOLDEN YOGA: Yoga has been shown to help alleviate or reduce many of the health challenges we face as we get older. This class is a more gentle form of our classical hatha yoga class and is suitable for the over 60s.
INTERMEDIATE YOGA This class is for those who would like to deepen their practice of asanas, breathwork and self-enquiry.
IYENGAR YOGA Iyengar Yoga, created by Yogacharya Sri B.K.S Iyengar of Pune, India is a form of yoga known for its use of props, such as belts and blocks, as aids in performing asanas (postures). It is firmly based on the traditional eight limbs of yoga as expounded by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras, emphasizing the development of strength, stamina, flexibility and balance, as well as concentration and meditation. A form of Hatha Yoga, it focuses on the structural alignment of the physical body through the development of asanas with great attention to detail with good use of 'props' such as blocks and straps. Would suit those who like a detailed and precise approach to the practice.
KUNDALINI YOGA: The Yoga of Awareness, a Kundalini class contains a comprehensive system of exercises, breathing, meditation, chanting and healthy mental projection. Suitable for all abilities.
MEN ONLY YOGA (OVER 50'S) A class for men over 50 who feel they would benefit from some physical exercise and mental serenity, suitable for their stage in life.
MOTHER & BABY YOGA This class offers an opportunity for mothers to have some good physical exercise after childbirth that is suitable for them at this stage. The mother can bring their baby with them up until the time their infant is mobile. The class also offers an opportunity to share the experience of motherhood with others.
OPEN YOGA This class is taught by 4 different teachers rotating on a weekly basis. ( Lynn Patton, Simon Stalley, Laurence Nagy, Surinder Kaur). Please look at the Teacher's page for further information on their individual teaching styles. The student will receive therefore much variety from week to week. This class is open to all abilities. PILATES Pilates is a proven exercise technique which has been is use for over 80 years. It can benefit everyone regardless of their age of fitness level. Pilates tones, strengthens and streamlines your body without building bulk or stressing the joints. Emphasis is placed on strengthening core muscles and centering the breathing allowing postural patterns to be released, restoring muscular strength, flexilbility and correct alignment. Pilates can help imporve the following: posture, balance, co-ordination, control, flexibility, joint mobility, tone, strength, stamina.
RESTORATIVE YOGA Yoga aims to balance and restore our bodies and minds so that we feel better. All Yoga practise is restorative at some level.This class is also suitable for those in recovery from illness or managing an illness yet would love to do some physical exercise. It will be conducted at a gentle pace with focus on stretching and relaxation.
